Department Description:
The Department of Educational and Psychological counselling was established in mid-2024 as an important academic department in the College of Education, based on an important need of educational institutions and most aspects of life in society, which is more emphasis on psychological aspects in educational institutions.
Department Vision:
Create an educational setting that is both supportive and inclusive where every student can thrive emotionally, societally, intellectually and academically. By providing extensive counseling services, the department attempt to empower individuals with the talent and resources they need to get over challenges, boost well-being, and achieve their full potential. we try and encourage students to be a leaders and stars in the field of counseling, promoting mental health awareness, advocating for students, clients, and contributing to the development of a more humane and equitable society.

We strive to provide a complete counseling services that address the emotional, social, intellectual, and academic needs of our individuals. We are devoted to promoting mental health, enhancing personal development, and fostering resilience. Through personalized support, group programs, and community outreach, we commit to ongoing professional development and research to ensure that our practices are evidence-based and responsive to the evolving needs of society.
Learning Outcomes at Department:
The learning programs in the Department are specifically organized so that the students can learn the principles of counseling in the field of individual, groups and community psychology. After graduation at this department, the student has the following work opportunities:
– As a psychological counselor in the Ministry of Education and its institutions as well as in schools.
– As psychological counselor in the Ministry of Social Affairs
– In the Ministry of Health and hospitals as psychological counselor
– In family guidance centers as a social and psychological counselor.
– As a psychological counselor in local and international humanitarian organizations.
– In the Ministry of Justice as a psychological counselor.
– After getting degree, students have direct effect on developing society by helping the individuals of the communities so that a healthy society can achieved.
Department Study Methods:
Students directly contact with teachers in the class, tutors present their lectures to the students face to face. Students also has more practical lecture at organizations, mental health centers and institutions as well as visiting of mental hospitals to see different psychological cases and accompany the doctors and they learn how to guide the patients.
Language used in department:
English is the language of study, encompassing both scientific material and example. The Kurdology module is included in the first semester, which is taught in Kurdish. Both native and foreign students are involved in studding Kurdology.
Duration of Studies:
The department’s study period is four calendar years’ curriculum that includes Eight Semesters, starting on September 1, and ending on July 31.
